About

I like to study music and art from other cultures. As well as mythology, and other belief systems. One culture I came across were the aborigines of Australia, native tribes who fallow an earth religion much like the Native Americans here. I became fascinated with the dot work in their dream-time paintings, and found a way to express myself artistically. I started incorporating the dot work into my own paintings, using three dimensional fabric paint. I find applying the dot work very soothing; it’s like a meditation for me. I enjoy using the fabric paint because it has a texture, and colors that I have not been able to find in other mediums. When the dots of paint dry they feel like Braille. It feels like there is a language hidden within the dots. This gave me the idea to name this group of work, Art for the blind. This also goes along with my belief that art should be experienced through all of the senses. It’s like when you’re an infant, and you want to touch and taste everything, it is a way of learning, and communication.
I am also interested to see what kind of roles woman have played in the art world of the past, and I want to help make a positive change in the art world of the future.
